Sudan Hope Project - Founding Charter

PREAMBLE

We, the founders and representatives of Sudan Hope Project, guided by conscience, compassion, faith, and a commitment to justice, hereby establish this Founding Declaration and Charter to formally constitute Sudan Hope Project as a nonprofit, humanitarian, development, advocacy, and faith-inspired organization.

We, members of the Sudanese diaspora and indigenous communities, inspired by faith, resilience, and the pursuit of justice, do hereby hereby establish this Founding Declaration and Charter to formally constitute Sudan Hope Project as a nonprofit, humanitarian, development, advocacy, and faith-inspired organization.

Our organization stands as a testament to the power of hope over despair, unity over division, and transformation over stagnation. We declare this project as a community-driven initiative, dedicated to uplifting those who have suffered displacement, marginalization, and the scars of conflict.

This Charter affirms our collective resolve to respond to the suffering caused by conflict, displacement, poverty, and injustice affecting Sudanese communities and other vulnerable populations, both in the homeland and in displacement.

Name & Legal Status

1.1 Name

The name of the organization shall be Sudan Hope Project (SHP).

1.2 Legal Nature

Sudan Hope Project is established as a non-profit, non-political, non-governmental, and community-based organization, operating in accordance with applicable laws and regulations in the countries of operation.

1.3 Non-Profit Character

No part of the organization's income or assets shall benefit any private individual. All resources shall be used exclusively to advance the mission of Sudan Hope Project.

Founding Context & Calling

Sudan Hope Project was founded in response to:

  1. Prolonged armed conflict and persecution in Sudan
  2. Mass displacement of civilians, including refugees and internally displaced persons
  3. Systematic violations of human rights
  4. Breakdown of social, educational, health, and spiritual systems
  5. The urgent need for faith-anchored hope, dignity, and community-led recovery

The organization arises from the lived experience of refugees, survivors, and diaspora leaders who believe that compassion must be translated into action and faith into service.

A world in which Sudanese and other conflict-affected communities live with dignity, hope, justice, and opportunity, free from fear, dependency, and exclusion.

Areas of Operation

Sudan Hope Project shall operate, subject to access and legal authorization, in:

  1. Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement – Uganda
  2. Yida / Ajwang Refugee Camps – South Sudan
  3. Kakuma Refugee Camp – Kenya
  4. Urban refugee communities in Egypt
  5. Conflict-affected and returnee areas in Sudan (limited access)
  6. Diaspora communities, including the United States and beyond

Governance & Leadership

8.1 Governing Bodies

Sudan Hope Project shall be governed by:

  • Executive Board (voting, fiduciary, and strategic authority)
  • Board of Trustees (non-voting, advisory, and technical support)

8.2 Management

Day-to-day operations shall be led by an Executive Director, supported by senior management, field coordinators, and program teams.

8.3 Accountability

All leaders shall act in accordance with this Charter, internal policies, and applicable laws.

Financial & Ethical Principles

  1. Transparent financial management
  2. Annual budgeting and reporting
  3. Donor accountability and audits where required
  4. Zero tolerance for corruption, exploitation, abuse, or discrimination
  5. Safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults

Scope of Work

  1. Operate programs within the United States and across refugee camps and conflict-affected regions in East Africa.
  2. Partner with churches, NGOs, community-based organizations, and international institutions to expand outreach.
  3. Mobilize the diaspora as a bridge between communities in exile and the homeland.
  4. Promote peacebuilding, reconciliation, and justice for victims of violence.

Amendments

This Founding Declaration & Charter may be amended by:

  1. A formal resolution of the Executive Board
  2. Consultation with the Board of Trustees
  3. Compliance with applicable legal requirements
XII

Dissolution

In the event of dissolution, all remaining assets shall be transferred to another nonprofit organization with similar humanitarian and charitable purposes, in accordance with the law.

ARTICLE XIII: ADOPTION & DECLARATION

We, the undersigned, do hereby affirm the establishment of Sudan Hope Project, Inc. as a nonprofit, community-led organization committed to the holistic transformation of lives and communities.

This Founding Declaration & Charter is hereby adopted and declared as the governing foundational document of Sudan Hope Project, affirming our collective commitment to serve God and humanity with faith, justice, and compassion.

Founders’ Declaration We declare Sudan Hope Project as a living commitment to hope in the face of despair, dignity in the midst of suffering, and faith expressed through service.
